REFLECTIONS
Experience
This is my second time taking the Design Research Methodology module, and
I'm considerably more impressed by my development this semester than before.
I've focused more on finishing jobs efficiently. If you struggle to manage
five modules in a semester, I strongly advise dropping one—it will greatly
reduce stress. I've seen this in person, and handling too many modules was
packed. In my opinion, I think Task 3 was the most challenging part of this
module, as creating an engaging survey required much effort. I am also
extremely grateful to my lecturer, Ms. Jinchi, for her encouragement
throughout this module, even though it was my second attempt. She's one of
the most motivating lecturers I've met at Taylor University, and I sincerely
value her guidance.
Observation
Time management is crucial—try to finish tasks within the timeframe
specified to prevent feeling overwhelmed throughout the semester. For the
Critical Review in Task 2, I suggest using Google Scholar and changing the
options to "Taylor's Library" while limiting the publication date range to
2019-2024. It was a game-changer for me in finding relevant research
articles. Do not limit yourself to a narrow scope when searching for
research articles. For example, my research problem was to investigate the
impact of layout design on user experience in mobile applications,
specifically e-commerce platforms. Instead of looking for a specific phrase
like "UIUX Layout Design Impact in E-Commerce Platforms," which returned
limited results, I chose general and related keywords like "UXD (User
Experience Design)," "Mobile Applications," and "UI Layout Design." This
strategy made it much easier to find current and relevant research papers.
Findings
Compared to my previous research topic on storybook covers, I found the
e-commerce research topic considerably easier to work on, as there were
significantly more research materials available. Plus, the availability of
data, including multiple case studies and industry reports, made evidence
collection easier, and e-commerce's practical significance provided a variety
of ongoing discussions and resources in this field.
