Progress:
Ideas & Sketches
I started to create a mind map about myself to get some idea.
Figure T2A.1: Mind Map, Week 5 (22/05/2024)
After creating the mind map, the keywords I chose from my mind map were easy-going, peaceful, and relax as the main focus for my sketches. I also decided to go with my first name - Ying, for my sketches. Before sketching, I listed the characteristics based on my chosen keywords and got some references from Pinterest.

Figure T2A.3: References, Week 5 (22/05/2024)
I chose Sketch #2 as my final decision to digitalise.
Week 6 (30/05/2024)
Digitisation
Digitisation #1:
I used the Pen Tool in Adobe Illustrator to trace the sketch I did.
Figure T2A.5: Digitisation #1, Week 6 (30/05/2024)
Digitisation #2:
Then, I realised that the space on the letters 'y", 'n' and 'g' were too small. To solve this matter, I:
- Letter 'y': Move the descender slightly lower.
- Letter 'n': Adjust the aperture slightly bigger.
- Letter 'g': Move the bowl slightly higher.
Figure T2A.6: Digitisation #2, Week 6 (30/05/2024)
Digitisation #3:
The tittle of the letter 'i' looked like a candle instead of a leave. To solve this matter, I:
- Letter 'i': Change the tittle to a droplet shape and make it face down.
Digitisation #4:
The letter 'g' loop wasn't as smooth as the letter 'y'. To solve this matter, I:
- Letter 'g': Adjust the curves in overall.

Colour Palette & Animation
Mr Vinod suggested going to Colour Hunt to find a colour palette for our identity. Before I found the colour palette, I made some notes on the colour that can represent the meaning of my keywords: peaceful and easy-going.
- Blue: Symbolises serenity and peace.
- Green: Symbolises nature and harmony.
- Orange: Symbolises energy and easy-going vibe.
- White: Symbolises simplicity and openness.
With the notes as guidance, I found some relevant colour palettes from the website and tested them on my key artwork.

I chose Colour Palette #5 as my final decision for my key artwork.

TASK 2B: COLLATERAL
Week 8 (12/06/2024)
Requirements:
- Students are tasked to design a t-shirt, lapel pin, an animated key artwork and an Instagram account (or as instructed in class) transforming the key artwork into a brand.
Submissions:
- Wordmark animation.
- Collateral 1, 2, 3.
- Instagram link.
- IG screen grab with good resolution.
Progress:
Expansion of Key Artwork & Animation
After choosing the colour palette, I started creating patterns based on my key artwork.
Figure T2B.1: Creating Patterns, Week 9 (19/06/2024)
Then, I moved on to do the animation for my key artwork with Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. The idea of my animation was bouncy, I wanted to bring a sense of playfulness yet calm that aligned with the easy-going and peaceful characteristics.
Figure T2B.2: Progress of Key Artwork Animation, Week 9 (19/06/2024)
For the collateral (3 items), I chose a candle, a mug, and a notebook from this website. The reasons were:
- Candle: Lighting a candle helps us to connect our emotions and discover serenity, as it is associated with warmth and hope.
- Mug: When a mug is filled with a hot beverage, it represents comfort and a moment of peace, which is often associated with taking a break and enjoying some alone time.
- Notebook: It promotes creativity, conceptualization, and personal development by offering a space for reflection and relaxation through writing/sketching.
Figure T2B.3: Collateral - 3 Items, Week 9 (19/06/2024)
For the self-portrait, I took a photo of myself, applied black and white colour in Adobe Photoshop, and added the key artwork to it.

Lastly, I adjusted the composition of 9 images in Adobe Illustrator before uploading them to Instagram.

FEEDBACKS
Week 5 (22/05/2024)
Specific Feedback: Need to use good keywords instead of bad keywords for the design.
General Feedback: The design must be readable and showcase personalities.
Week 6 (29/05/2024)
Specific Feedback: -
General Feedback: Consider the client's perspective while creating your own design.
Week 7 (05/06/2024)
Specific Feedback: -
General Feedback: Don't use too light colour. Select 3 items of personal significance and explain how they relate to each other.
REFLECTIONS
Experience
I experimented with several variations and combinations of my name to create a wordmark/lettering, to achieve an easy-going and peaceful for my final key artwork.
Observation
Maintaining consistency in style and elements was crucial to sustaining the overall visual identity, and certain combinations resulted in confusing designs.
Findings
To ensure functionality and communication, each shape's arrangement and proportion of the key artwork have to be thought through carefully.
