Figure E1.3: Quiz - Shot Size, Camera Angle & Composition, Week 1 (26/04/2024)

3) Asynchronous Class Materials Reflection

Shot Size is the amount of viewable space in a single shot or frame. Different shot sizes can emphasize certain emotions, concepts, and movements throughout each scene. For example, Extreme Long Shot (ELS) can make the subject seem overwhelmed by its surroundings; it is frequently used to emphasize the location. Besides that, Framing is the art of placing and composing subjects inside the camera shot.

Furthermore, Camera Angle specifies where the camera should be positioned while taking a shot. The camera's position concerning the subjects influences how the viewer views the scene. For example, a Low-Angle Shot frames the subject from a low camera position, gazing up at them. It emphasizes power relations between characters. Lastly, Composition refers to how elements in a scene are arranged within a camera frame. Shot composition is the arranging of visual elements to express a purposeful idea.

3) Framing & Storyboard - Shooting Exercise

Tze Wei and I partnered up for this shooting exercise. We filmed around the computer lab (D7.04) during the daytime. It was very embarrassing, to be honest. After the recording was completed, I imported the videos into the "Before" folder.
Figure E2.17: Importing Original Videos into "Before" Folder, Week 2 (03/05/2024)

Then, I started to edit them in Premiere Pro by cutting the right video length (5 seconds per video) and muting them.
Figure E2.18: Cutting Video Length & Muting, Week 2 (03/05/2024)

Film Production contains five distinct stages: Development, Pre-production, Production, Post-production, and Distribution. The Development stage is typically overseen by a producer, who is responsible for gathering the initial elements such as creatives, financing, and a basic schedule. The Pre-production stage is the planning stage of filmmaking, during which all essential preparations are performed before filming begins such as script writing, storyboard creation, actor casting, location scouting, set and costume design, and crew hiring.

The Production stage is the stage where the actual filming takes place, with the production team working together to capture all the important footage using the plans and preparations created during pre-production as a guide. The Post-production stage is the stage where the footage is edited and put together into a finished product. The Distribution stage is to guarantee that the right audience sees the film, it is promoted and made available to the public via theatres, streaming platforms, and various media channels.
