Final Project Consultation 1

Mr Fauzi asked us to start with idea development. After that, we'll give him a private comment to check on our progress and give some opinions, so we can proceed to the other parts.

EXERCISE - CONCEPTUAL PRODUCT PHOTOSHOOT

Week 11 (05/12/2023)

Final Artwork

Conceptual Product Photoshoot
Figure E11.1: Conceptual Product Photoshoot - The Orange Globe, Week 11 (05/12/2023)

Title:
The Orange Globe

Description: The spherical form of the orange can visually parallel the shape of the globe. In my point of view, orange can be seen as "Wholeness or Completeness", because of its round shape, an orange can be a symbol of wholeness or unity, just as a globe does for the world as a whole. Besides that, it also can be seen as cycles. Since oranges are a fruit that ripens and grows in cycles, they could mean growth, time passing, or renewal. It has warm, calming tones, which also reminded me of peaceful.

EXERCISE - SELF-TITLED

Idea Development & Design Direction

Part 1: Idea Development

1. Write a biography about yourself.

  • Intro: Tell us about yourself.
    • My name is Khu Ying Ying, but you may call me Ying if you prefer. I am an INFP-T person, and I am a dreamer and idealist. Besides that, I love reading comics (currently Lookism :3) and gaming (although I’m terrible at it).
  • Paragraph 1: What is your passion?
    • I wish for my art to link people from all over the world. Through my work, I'd like to bring together different cultures and perspectives by using art to better understand and appreciate one another.
  • Paragraph 2: What motivates you to achieve your dream?
    • Seeking peace, harmony, and minimizing conflicts.
  • Summary: How do you want to visualise your dream into an artwork?
    • I want to include unity and diversity in my artwork, I was inspired by the tarot card - The World.
      • unity: hands reaching each other/ intertwining vines/ globe
      • diverse culture: traditional patterns/ symbols
      • colour palette: harmonious colour, warm tone
      • using collage

2. Write a statement about your work.

  • Intro: Tell us about your work.
    • My work is about harmony, making the audience feel connected to one another.
  • Paragraph 1: What is the concept behind it?
    • The concept is to bring people together by encouraging empathy and understanding, bringing diverse people together in a moment of connection and respect, and reminding people of our common humanity.
  • Paragraph 2: What is the message you want people to understand?
    • I hope that people will recognize the richness in our differences and recognise the greatness of our shared humanity.
  • Summary: What is your motto/ quote?
    • Uniting the world through diversity, painting the canvas of unity.

3. Mood board (3 poster references).

Before I proceeded to Part 2 - Design Direction, I found some inspirations from Pinterest as my reference for my mood board.

Part 2: Design Direction

1. Sketch up your mock-up poster.
Firstly, I sketched out the rough ideas with ibisPaintX on my tablet.

Then, I selected Sketch 1 as my final sketch. Before proceeding to the next step - creating the digital sketch, I finalised the sketch again so I wouldn't get lost.
